RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO LINE THE ROUTE AND SUPPORT THE RIDERS AS THEY PASS THROUGH PRESTON. (They'll be fast so be out early).
Preston residents and businesses on the route: Wyton Road, Main Street and Station Road can collect flags and bunting to decorate their property, front garden or frontage to welcome the cyclists from the parish council. Children whilst on their school holidays are encouraged to make welcoming and supportive signs/ banners or decorate their own bikes and have them on display to add a bit of community spirit to the event. Hand held flags will be available from the Clerks office on Wednesday 2nd September and the Community Hall on the morning of the event.

STAGE THREE : HULL TO BEVERLEY WILL INCLUDE PRESTON

The Lloyds Tour of Britain, the UK's premier professional cycling race, returns to the East Riding in September 2026. Stage 3 will start in Hull and finish in Beverley, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to experience world-class sport on their doorstep.
The race will showcase the region to a national and international audience, while providing opportunities for communities to celebrate and get involved through local events and activities.
Race start – Hull
The stage will begin from East Park, Hull with the cyclists departing at 10.15am.
Race route
Following departure from East Park, riders will complete a neutralised section through Bilton before reaching the official kilometre zero (0km) start. From there, the route heads towards Preston before travelling along the coast through Withernsea, Hornsea and Skipsea.
The route then turns inland through Burton Agnes and Driffield before heading into Beverley. A series of climbs in the latter stages of the route are expected to create an exciting finale before the riders reach Beverley.
Once in Beverley, competitors will complete three circuits around Beverley Westwood, Walkington, Bishop Burton and Cherry Burton, crossing the finish line at Beverley Racecourse before the final sprint finish on the final lap.
Race Finish – Beverley
The stage will finish on Beverley Westwood near Beverley Racecourse.
Residents and visitors will be able to watch the riders arrive and enjoy the podium presentation and Tour Village activities following the race.
The Tour Village will feature free family entertainment, including:

A live freestyle mountain bike show featuring world-class riders, BMX stunts and aerial displays

Family cycle try-out sessions, offering a wide range of bikes and adapted cycles suitable for all ages and abilities

A supervised cycling skills track featuring ramps, balance beams, slalom sections and other obstacles, designed to help children build confidence, balance and bike-handling skills in a fun, safe group environment

The dirt factory pump track course and a freestyle airbag landing, giving riders a fun and safe way to develop cycling skills, confidence and technique.

Plus, lots of cycling-themed activities and opportunities to learn more about cycling in the East Riding.

Parking suspensions

There will be some parking suspensions along the route especially in built up areas where the road narrows. Advanced signage will go out to inform residents and businesses nearer the time.

Road closures

During each stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain, road closures are put in place for a short amount of time ahead of when the race passes through, minimising any dangers to the professional athletes, officials, spectators and communities along the route.

The organisers operate a ‘rolling road closure’ system rather than a full road closure to minimise disruption to the local community as much as possible. Therefore, the roads will only be closed for a short window - approximately 30-40 minutes - while the race passes through.

York Road and Newbald Road in Beverley will be closed for the day to facilitate the set up and operation of the finish line and the Tour Village.

DRAFT ORDER - Proposed Stopping Up of Highway at Staithes Road, Preston.

Preston Parish Council will discuss the Draft Order at their next parish Council meeting on Monday 13th July 2026, commencing at 7pm in the Community Hall.
Huge thanks to Sheppard Nurseries, Sproatley Road, Preston for providing colourful flower baskets around the village once again this year.
Please keep them watered and dead headed folks and ensure the baskets are returned the end of the summer in order for them to be re-planted in 2027.
